It sounds like you have a sloppy mechanic. I would take it back and tell
me to fix it since you paid him in good faith to do the job right. The
light shouldn't glow if everything is working properly. Come to think of
it, Eric Nelson mentioned he fixed an alternator problem on a 505 XN6 for
someone and it turned out to be a bolt on the alternator tensioner
bracket not tightened, that is how the alternator is grounded apparently.
Check all the bolts and electrical connections and see if that helps.
If that works, ask the mechanic for 1/2 the labor back -:)
