All:
I was having trouble finding an AC expansion valve for my 88 505 wagon
for a reasonable price. Finally got one locally at a parts shop called
Olympic Auto Parts (a metro washington DC chain, I guess). They got me
a new French-made valve for $41.00 compared to the cheapest dealer quote
I got of 133.00. AC runs strong and cold.
make: EGELHOF
model: TCD 2, r12, EXV 900
Olympic part #: 32151 (equivalent to Peugeot part # 55.36.10)
They do mail order.
Olympic Auto telephone is 1-800-322-0850.
They also have many aftermarket parts for Peugeots including rotors,
brake parts, and Bosal exhausts, etc.
Thought this might help people who are stuck with broken ACs and high
priced AC parts alternatives. I have no financial interest in Olympic
(wish I did though, 'cause they sell an awful lot of parts around
here!).

87 505 STI (V6)
88 505 GLS (SW8)
85 505S, TD
Note: For some reason their computer lists the above expansion valve as
only fitting cars from 1981 to 1986. I had a haunch that they were
wrong so I pulled out my bad valve from the 88 505 wagon and took it to
there to compare with the new one. Was an exact match. Contrast this
with the NAPA situation where they sold me a valve listed for a 88 wagon
and it did not fit!
What else I learned from this AC repair episode:
Just because the front of the compressor is wet does not mean that the
comporessor is bad and /or leaking freon.
