I brought my car in to have them fix the stiff shifting linkage.
I don't have full details ( I'll post them when I get them) but my
Peugeot mechanic replaced two bushings in the shift linkage (near the
transmission I believe) which were 96 cents each (part number
2175.05...not sure that is a peugeot part number), and spent 2 hours of
labor.
The mechanic referred to them as shifter bushings (maybe they were near
the gear selector)
Anyway, as a result, my car now shifts easier than it ever has since I
bought it (with 60k miles). It made a huge difference.
BTW, my peugeot mechanic said he spoke with a Peugeot rep who claims that
Peugeot will come back to the US market with the 407 model ( a prototype
is now ready) in the 2001 model year....According to the rep, we will see
the cars in mid to late 2000. The 406 car will not be sold in the US
because it does not pass side impact tests.
I am clearly in the " I'll believe it when I see it" camp, so I do not
place too much faith in this 3rd handed report. I would also not likely
be a new car buyer of any make, so this is of less interest to me.
