I'm a newbie to this list, what a great resource you have here! I recently
acquired (almost a giveaway) from a neighbor, 1989 405S, about 120K miles,
body so-so, mechanically pretty good/professionally maintained (their other
car was a Jag). Car had belonged to daughter who graduated from college,
got married, etc.
My finances dictate that I pretty much have to keep this baby running on my
own, and finding this list has helped me get over that initial feeling that
"I must have bought the last one of these in the USA!"
My only immediate need is a windshield wiper motor. When you turn wipers
on, they assume the vertical position and stay there, motor keeps grinding.
Before posting this I tried to do a pretty thorough search of the
archives, only found one mention of this topic, so maybe its not one of the
common problems. I live in New Jersey, so luckily there are some suppliers
of new parts, but was wondering if anyone had tips on sources for
used/rebuilt parts before I buy. Also wondering if anyone has experience
actually taking an electrical part in to a shop and having it rebuilt.
Almost seems like it might be feasible based on the price I was quoted for
a new motor.
