Toasted 505??

A mechanic has told me that I need the following parts for the 1983, 70K,
505 fuel injected Peugeot. I received some very helpful information from
several people on this list and say thank you to you folks out there who
took the time to respond.

What I have learned is that the ol'505 seems to be toast. The car is
immaculate and in pristine shape. Low, low miles and great paint.
Unfortunately it needs the following items:

1. Fuel Distributor
2. Pressure Regulator
3. Injectors
4. Fuel pump (main, he said the one there now sounds like a coffee grinder!)
5. Fuel filter
6. 2 fuel lines to the fuel filter. (The banjo connections are missing.)

Apparentely what happened was that a previous mechanic by-passsed the fuel
filter becasue there wasn't enough pressure (pressure regulator was not
working well?) in the fuel line. The system had run for some time without
the filter and has 'messed up' the injectors etc. There is no way to
control the fuel pressure which is now running around 90 psi. I understand
it should be around 45 psi?

Anyway I guess my 2 questions are
1. Are the costs for these parts so dear as to make the car not worth
repairing? (I mean are the parts worth more then the car)?
2. Is anybody out there interested in this car and or does any one know
where I can get these parts?
(Sorry, I guess that is really 4 questions.)

My good friend who owns the car does not really want to turn it into a boat
anchor as it is such a great car. Neither do, I which is why we are trying
to figure out what to do with it. It is drivable but we don't know how
much longer the fuel pump will work sounding like a 'coffee grinder."

Any thoughts or suggestions on the toasted 505 would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
robert janyk
