My 405 broke its glovebox latch about 3 months after I got the car.
It occurred while driving on a gravel road. I was not well
impressed. At least it's got the updated metal handle/latch now.
But both glovebox door retaining straps have sheared off over the
years. And the whole box is sort of falling apart - the pivot rod
falls out occasionally and the interior is cracked in a few places.
At least the wayward glovebox door gives one a legitimate excuse to
grope the front passenger's legs from time to time.
I can't believe that the Peugeot engineers thought they could use the
EU plastic latch, retaining straps and pivot assembly on the
US/Canada 405 with its heavy door (it probably weighs 5 times as much
as the EU el-cheapo flimsy plastic door). Duh!
At least the important bits seem to be a little more robust.
