My friend and I were standing over the engine of the black turbo
when we got into an esoteric discussion of the valve cover gaskets. I
was sharing my "inside" information and he added the question- "Is it a
cork gasket"? I concurred, because I have been following Jim's
recommendation for a Fel-Pro. He had me puzzled, because he asked me
what sequence is used when tightening. I hate it when he says, "You have
to think about it". Then he said, "Think of a cork, like when you put
one in a bottle".
I said, "Yeah". "So?".
He said you want to start at the ends, to kinda squish the gasket
inward, then go to the middle. Otherwise, if you start in the middle,
the gasket gets squished outward, and is less apt to stay sealed.
It makes sense on paper.
