RE: recall for 405?

I owned a 205 1.9 GTI (1989) which needed a new set of piston rings
after 50,000 miles (and no, it didn't have a hard life). It was only
after paying the large repair bill that I heard a similar story from a
ex-peugeot rally driver in the U.K. The symptons he described matched
my car perfectly, and he said that Peugeot were aware of this problem.
My investigations with Peugeot turned up nothing.

Subject: recall for 405?

I own a 92 405 SR. It has a 1.9 engine, carb and 8 valves. I learned
that they had an engine defect. This caused the piston rings to wear
too quickly. The car now has about 70K km and it is starting to burn
up oil. I left it to be repaired. Does anyone had previous experience
with this problem? What were the parts that Peugeot replaced for
free?

Thanks
