405 brake lights out

I am getting intermittent power to the brake light switch under the
brake pedal. I took part of the dash off to look for a wiring fault and
did not really find the problem. It just started to work properly on
its own. I put it all back together and crossed my fingers. That didn't
work, the problem returned. Now I have stripped all of the dash down to
removing the instrument panel in an attempt to expose and trace the
wiring but I cannot get to it all, too much plastic in the way.

Right now it all works perfectly and no matter how much I wiggle, shake
and manhandle the wiring I cannot get it to fail. I do not want to put
it all back together yet because I have not fixed anything.

Can someone explain to me the wiring from the brake light switch back
to the power source so I can figure out the fault. Everything from the
switch to the lights is fine.

Some help today would be nice as I have a meeting out of town. Driving
on the highway without brake lights is not an attractive thought, nor
do I want to walk.
