85 505 TD starting electrics contd..

I checked the neutral safety switch tonight and noted that one of the
terminals on the switch is loose. With key on, moving this terminal
causes relay on firewall to click. tells me that whatever else the
problem is with starting mechanism, I have to begin with replacing the
neutral safety switch.

The battery/alternator light on the dash continues to puzzle me. With
key in the full on position, the dash light comes on sometimes and at
other times it does not. all other light come on as they are supposed
to. BUT, whether the dash battery light comes on or not, there is power
to the single wire coming to the alternator.

Anyone with a sense of what's might be going on here?
