OK...after my previous message, I received a request for the specific
information on how to replace the Peugeot blower fan motor with one that
supposedly fits the Chrysler New Yorker (from the late 80s-early 90s).
Following is ALL the detailed information that I have..there are no
implied guarantees if you use my information (just covering myself!
lol). Use this info. and procedure at your own risk, but please realize
that for me it really was a straight-forward job that probably took
about an hour from removing the housing to putting it back together. The
worst part was making measurements to decide where to drill the small
holes in the housing to accommodate the bolts which will hold the new
motor to the housing (since it of course will mount slightly differently
than the original). That's as tricky as it got, but make sure you center
the

Here's the information that I have available from the two (2) receipts
that I kept (one for the motor, one for the squirrel cage):

I purchased the fan motor from Murray's Discount Auto Parts up in
Waterford, Michigan. That's a big Mid-Western auto parts chain with
locations all over Detroit (and Michigan), and also I believe in other
neighboring states like Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, etc.
Anyway, my receipt says that the fan motor is for an '89 Chrysler
(that's as detailed as it gets, unfortunately, but I do remember it was
for a New Yorker).
The brand of the motor seems to be "Ram AR" (that's what's scribbled on
the receipt), and the Part No. is PM247. There's a life time warranty on
it too. I paid $38.10 (US) on April 3, 1992. Since this was purchased at
Murray's, I'd suggest you call a Murray's location to see if they still
carry that brand/part number. I'm absolutely sure that motor was for the
New Yorker, probably the cheap, run-of-the-mill one with a small engine
(4 cyl. if that existed, or the 6-cyl).
My receipt for the squirrel cage was from a local NAPA store in
Waterford, Michigan.
I paid $19.83 for it on April 3, 1992. The line or brand is specified as
BK, and if I remember correctly, I think that stood for Belkamp or
Balknap or something similar. The Part No. was 655-1415 (probably the BK
number, perhaps the NAPA number, but I doubt it).
As for installation, I remember I removed the fan housing, removed the
old fan and had to basically drill 2-3 holes through the housing for
small diameter, relatively long mounting bolts (get those at any
hardware, or check for workable ones lying around the garage/shop once
you determine the type you will need). I know this sounds relatively
involved, and I suppose it could be, but I assure you that once you
mount the motor to the housing (making sure it's centered completely, so
the squirrel cage doesn't rub the housing), then it's only a matter of
sliding the squirrel cage onto the motor shaft and experimenting with
how far to put it on before tightening the convenient heavy-duty set
screw which holds it on (unlike the crappy Peugeot unit). It'll take a
bit of patience and fine-tuning, but hey, if I could do it, most anyone
can! LOL
Good luck with this procedure...and solve your problem once and for all.
