Which manufacturer in their right mind would use Jaeger for
>instrument clusters? Do you think all those broken speedometer cables are
>just a sign of old age? Maserati uses Jaeger too, and I have never seen a
>working odometer on any of them!
Jaeger is a division of Magnetti-Marelli, which is a division of Fiat.
While not obligated, I'm sure Maserati was encourage to use them.
A good deal of bad reputations of certain model cars tend to stem from part
suppliers. The public does not know that, as far as their concerned the car
company makes everything.
But lets not totally blame companies like Jaeger,Valeo,etc..
Keep in mind that when Peugeot asked them to design a speedo, they gave them
a certain set of standards, one which included cost.
By the time you get the final product, you can be sure that every step of
the way from every manufacture that fabricated,designed,assembled....there
were many cut corners.
GM likes to replace their corner cutting with extra frills such as sunglass
holders. (Blazer)
I think the formula works like this:
Save 10 cents on seatbelt bolts=cup holder
Save $1 on airbag wiring= passenger vanity mirror
Use cheaper transmission parts=GM/Hall&Oats introduction cassette
