Since the almost eminent demise of the cylinder head on my turbo sedan I
have been pondering the options for this engine. I wonder if it would be
possible to extract nearly the same amount of horsepower from this
engine without the turbo. If the turbo is the main reason for the high
cost of ownership for this engine would it be possible to remove it and
try using some custom Jahns pistons with about 10:1 compression along
with a different camshaft, higher lift-duration or at least a more
performance oriented profile and also tuned headers with a free flowing
cat. Those changes it seems would enable this engine to have nearly the
same output as it has with the turbo but none of the "head" aches. The
engine is built to last from what I can see of it, but the failure of
turbos and heads usually brings an early death to this engine due to the
high cost of repairs. I like how the engine feels on the highway, smooth
and quiet running, possibly part of the quiet is due to the turbo
muffling exhaust. Curious if anyone else has had any thoughts along
these lines. Or better if they have had thoughts and can direct me to
some sources for the parts for the change. I discussed this with a
friend that works on mostly american cars at a shop locally, he informed
me that GM has at least one pushrod 4cylinder egine that puts out
approximately the same hp/displacement as the Peugeot turbo engine.
