Dear Listers
For those who want to know an have not taken the time to find out , the
problem with the cables I have seen is that the outer sheath which is rigid
plastic and has surprisingly few twists and turns in it crumbles near the
sun roof connection itself and renders everything in- operative up there.
No big surprise after 12 years on my 86, given that the maximum life
expectancy on a motorvehicle is 10 years. For those who have replaced
cables, perhaps it is because they were replaced with 12 year old parts that
had degraded thru shelf life. Or how about some smart guy glued the thing
back together and charged for a new one! Mine is now manual, minus the head
liner insert under the sun roof. Can we get an aftermarket kit to make it
neat and effective? I am not sure if it is reasonable to expect a cable of
any kind to last more than ten years.
Dan
