    It is possible to over cool an engine, I remember reading a chart somewhere that showed
    engine wear related to engine heat. At cold, first started is the highest and it
    bottoms out somewhere around 180-200 and then gradually goes up. A thermostat provides
    an engine with a minimum operating temp and does little to keep it from overheating, it
    does though keep it from underheating and no engine should be run without one.
